In anticipation of her appearance at Taste of the Nation San Diego, where she’s serving as the honorary chair, Melissa chats with the San Diego Union-Tribune about everything from childhood hunger to celeb-chef friends. She shares how her own experiences with hunger growing up have influenced her to become an avid supporter of Share our Strength’s No Kid Hungry campaign and dishes on her go-to spots for a family meal – something she doesn’t take lightly, “We’re six people. For us, going out to dinner, even inexpensively, it really is an investment, so I think about it.”
