Labor Day Weekend Recipe Ideas

Summer is officially coming to an end (sigh) as Labor Day quickly approaches. For some families, school is already back in session (my girls are all in the same school for the first time, phew!) and others are getting started next week. Either way, I hope that you’ll have the chance to spend some quality time this weekend with family and friends.

So, what’s on the menu? I wanted to share some ideas with you for affordable and satisfying dishes that are simple to make and perfect for a quick get together or just family dinner.

There are lots of great options in my new cookbook if you have had a chance to pick it up.

Some fun ideas include: Tomato Salad-Topped Grilled Pizza, Spiced Tilapia Tacos with Red Cabbage-Jalapeno Slaw, Grilled Tandoori Pork Kebabs, Grilled Two-Cheese Burgers with Garlic Dressing, Spicy Buffalo-Style Potato Wedges, Rigatoni with No-Cook Tomato Sauce, and Fruit Salad with Lemon-Mint Syrup.

If you haven’t had a chance to pick up the book yet, I’ve still got you covered. Here’s a list of recipes available here on my site that would be great for a spread this weekend.

Mains: Layered Picnic-in-a-Jar, Beef and Black Bean Sliders, Fish Skewers with Basil Chimichurri, Summer Basil Burger, Simply Grilled Chicken Breasts

Sides: Grilled Crunchy Coleslaw, Grilled Potato Salad with Bacon-Green Onion Vinaigrette, Spicy Grilled Corn, Kale Slaw, Tomatillo Sauce

Fruit Desserts: Watermelon with Ginger-Mint Syrup, Honey Glazed Grilled Pineapple

Drinks: Non-Alcoholic Sangria, Lime Spritzer, Lemon Shandy, Cranberry Orange Spritzer

There are many more recipes on the site too – you can search by main ingredient or course through the drop-down menus, or always just use the search bar on the bottom right of the site. And please share your menus, food photos and recipe thoughts with me on Facebook and Twitter.

Here’s to a happy, healthy and safe Labor Day weekend for everyone!
